Frequently Asked Questions for Recommenders

What if I am asked to provide the same recommendation multiple times for the same student?

We strongly encourage that you download and save a copy of each completed recommendation in the event that you are asked to provide the same recommendation multiple times for the same student. Once completed, you can view and download a copy of your recommendation to support future requests.

Will my completed recommendation stay on the portal for future use?

No. Once the student has submitted their application, the recommendation will disappear from your view in the portal.

What if I do not want to provide a recommendation for a student or cannot speak to the questions required for a specific recommendation?

If you do not want to provide a recommendation for a student, or are not the appropriate individual to provide a specific recommendation, please contact the student so they can reach out to another individual who can do so. Please do this in a timely fashion to allow the student enough time to find another individual.

Can I save my incomplete recommendation and return to it later?

Yes. Please click Save and you can return to complete the recommendation later.

Can I make a change to a recommendation that I already submitted?

No, once it has been submitted you cannot make a change. Please ensure you review the recommendation carefully before submitting it.

How long should my responses be to the recommendation questions?

There is no prescribed answer length. It is recommended that you answer all required questions in their entirety and provide insight into how the student meets the criteria listed in each question.

Will the student see my responses to the recommendation I provide?

No. Your responses will only be viewable to NSCC staff and those who are members of the review panel for the award.
