Accepting an Award

If selected for an award, you will receive an email advising that an update has been made to one of your submissions in the Portal, prompting you to visit your awards account and take action to accept your award.

Here is what an award offer looks like in your awards account:

As part of the award offer, you will be required to complete some tasks before an award can be attributed to your NSCC student account.

Acceptance Requirement

Some awards require the completion of an Acceptance Requirement task, which are mandatory and may include:
  • confirmation of your attendance at a donor event; and/or
  • meeting the donor in person.

Accept or Decline Award Offer

The Accept or Decline Award Offer is a mandatory task. Read the terms and conditions carefully to ensure you understand the requirements and next steps. Please note: an award offer must be accepted and all tasks must be completed within 30 days.

Once you confirm your acceptance, review and complete assigned tasks, which may include:

Donor Thank You Questionnaire

The Donor Thank You Questionnaire is a mandatory acceptance task for all awards and requires the completion of the following questions:
  1. Please tell us about yourself. Why did you choose to attend NSCC? Are there any interests and experiences that led you here?
  2. What impact will this award have on your education at NSCC?
  3. What are your goals for the future and how will this award help you achieve them?
  4. Is there anything else you would like the donor to know about you? Is there anything you would like to say to the donor?
You will have access to information about the donor, but you are also encouraged to refer to the award in the awards directory so you can be specific with your answers. Your responses must be at least 100 words in length and not exceed 500 words.

If you are offered multiple awards, you will be required to complete a separate Donor Thank You Questionnaire for each award. Download a copy of your completed Donor Thank You Questionnaire for reference, however, where possible tailor your responses to the specific award.

Upload A Photo

As an award recipient, you will be asked to submit a photo of yourself to complement the Donor Thank You Questionnaire. Before uploading a photo, consider the following tips:
  • Your photo should be current and in colour.
  • Look straight at the camera and smile.
  • Ensure your eyes are open.
  • The photo should contain your full head and shoulders.
  • You should use a plain backdrop without clutter, signage and other people in frame.
  • Use natural light whenever possible (it should be behind the person taking your photo).
  • If you wear prescription glasses, you can avoid glare appearing on your glasses with a slight upward or downward tilt of the head.
  • No selfies, photos of legal documents (i.e. Passport photo, Driver's licence photos) or proofs of photos.
  • Do not submit photos with filters, poor lighting or with flash reflection or red eye.

How to upload your photo:
  • Click start.
  • Upload the photo file from your computer, tablet or mobile device by clicking on Browse for a file.
  • Once uploaded, it will automatically appear in a photo viewer in your browser window.
  • View the photo to ensure you attached the correct file.
  • Once complete, click the Back button on the top-right of the photo viewer.
  • You will be returned to your list of required tasks to accept the award.

About Social Insurance Number (SIN) Reporting

Social Insurance Number (SIN) Reporting is mandatory for all awards. Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations require NSCC to issue T4A slips for all scholarships, bursaries and awards distributed to students in a given calendar year. Instructions for reporting your SIN are included in the Award offer letter.
